CONVENOR’S NOTE 2023
We have succeeded through COVID, yet the war between Russia and Ukraine pushed us towards the extreme flexing of power play. Far rightists have become dominant, but even so, it couldn’t stop our intellect from doing what is right. We are still searching for our way out, not just for living but to ‘Unbound’ ourselves from deep within. It is a never-ending process. Few in the world are working their way out. We are advertising too much in the name of Globalization. We are marching toward another planet too. The world is in our fist, but through the process, we have also digitalized our needs and emotions. Now we earnestly want to do away with the power play. We feel the urge to go back to the basics and want to connect from the more humanitarian ground. We are longing for the conversation, face to face, not through META. This art fest is our platform to initiate that conversation.
Behala Art fest is a few weeks away. We are setting out in the best way possible. White Cube space has become constrained. Also, very few people can connect themselves with the institutionalization of it. So we have decided to take art and its creators out of their comfort zone and put it on the streets of Behala. The road connects many dots and goes on at its own pace. Unbounding ourselves from the constraints of our daily life and moving beyond is our goal. Art teaches us how to break our boundaries and think of something new. Gen Z, who have much to talk about, and folks who have already found their path, will assimilate in this journey. We had all the support to begin.
Artist Sri. Debraj Goswami (Professor, M.S. University, Vadodara) and artist Sri. Samindranath Majumder will be moderating the show. Sri. Saumik Nandy Majumder(Prof. Art History, Kala Bhavan,Shantiniketan) will also guide us throughout. Through some disciplined work process, we all will move forward. We are ready to ‘Unbound’ our minds to the mass. We are not here for mere entertainment but to initiate meaningful conversation. Reciprocation is long due.
All my regards to the Behala Art Fest organizing committee.
